➝ Sports at Georgia State
Competing in downtown Atlanta, Georgia State Athletics is becoming one of the premier programs in the Group of Five.
Fielding 16 varsity teams in the NCAA’s Division I, the Panthers compete in the Sun Belt Conference. The university acquired Turner Field in 2017 and transformed it into Georgia State Stadium, the home of Panthers football. As part of the transformation of Georgia State athletics, the university is working on building a new Convocation Center for basketball and a new baseball park where the former Atlanta– Fulton County Stadium once stood.
Since joining the Sun Belt Conference in 2013, 12 Panther teams have won conference titles and moved on to play in the NCAApostseason — men’s basketball, women’s cross country, men’s golf, and men’s and women’s tennis. Over the last five years, the Panthers have earned 18 All-America honors and eight freshman All-America honors.
Georgia State has also garnered a reputation for grooming student-athletes into well-rounded people. Service to others is a priority throughout the year as student-athletes and Athletics staff devote time and effort to include the downtown community in the #PantherFamily.
That work ethic also translates to the classroom where student-athletes have produced strong Academic Progress Rate scores, a winning record for combined grade point average (exceeding 3.0 for more than 10 years) and a league-leading graduation rate.
